The Best Work from Home Remote Jobs for Teachers & Moms
Online Teaching
When it comes to online teaching, there are so many options! For a while, online ESL teaching seemed to be at the forefront. However, through teaching with a few of these companies, I discovered there are so many other companies that offer online teaching opportunities.
Some of these companies allow you to create your own curriculum and set your own pay rates, teaching whatever you want and charging what you feel is fair. Other companies create the curriculum for you and have a standard pay rate per class; all you have to do is show up and teach! Some have a minimum teaching requirement and others don’t; some require a bachelor’s degree and teaching experience. I have tried to note the requirements and details for each company but definitely feel free to click on the links and check out their websites for more information.
With Outschool, you set your own rate per student, choose the hours you want to be available to teach, and create and teach your own lessons. You can literally teach anything from ABC lessons to foreign languages to puppy dog show and tell! Outschool provides the teaching and advertising platform, as well as Zoom, and you provide the lessons and experience. It’s basically like a marketplace for selling your teaching and tutoring services. If you aren’t familiar with Outschool, you can follow this link here to setup a parent account and get $20 worth of free classes for your own learner. If you are interested in teaching, you can follow this link to setup a teacher account and get the application process started.
VIPKid is a Chinese company that allows native English speaking teachers to teach English to Chinese students. As of November 2021, due to new Chinese regulations, Chinese mainland students will no longer be able to take classes with foreign teachers. However, VIPKid is working on a global platform that would allow teachers to teach English to students from countries worldwide. There is very little information at this time, but I included them on the list in case you are interested in what they may have to offer in the coming months.
I personally taught for VIPKid primarily in 2019 and 2020 and enjoyed my time with them. I have kept my contract renewed, since there is no teaching minimum, and I am eager to see what this global platform is all about. A bachelor’s degree in any field is required, as well as some sort of experience with kids (not necessarily teaching). The ESL pay was $14-$22 an hour. I am not sure about the Global pay structure at this time but I will update as information is released.
Cambly and Cambly kids are under the same umbrella but there is one distinct difference. With Cambly, you teach adults. With CamblyKids you teach… you guessed it, KIDS! Through Cambly, you can tutor both adults and kids in English from countries all over the world. By clicking this link, you can learn more about the requirements and begin the application process. No teaching certificate, bachelor’s degree or prior teaching experience are needed to teach with Cambly.
BookNook is a US based online tutoring company where you work with small groups of students (no more than 4) on literacy skills through their online curriculum. You set your own hours, the teaching materials are provided for you, and sessions are 30 minutes long. Pay can range from $15-$22 an hour based on experience. Click this link to learn more and begin the application process.
This is another US based online teaching company that you will love if you are a certified teacher! Elevate allows you to teach K12 students virtually between the hours of 8am and 6pm EST. You can teach between 5 and 30 hours per week, the pay is up to $20/hr for teachers, and the job is fully remote. A bachelor’s degree is required and a teaching certificate is needed for teacher roles, but not necessarily tutor roles. Click this link to learn more about Elevate K12 or to browse open opportunities.
If you’re familiar with Outschool, Preply is similar. It’s an online teaching marketplace where you create your own lessons and set your own pay rates. Teach what you want, when you want, and charge what you feel is fair. You can click this link to browse their site, see what other teachers are offering, and begin the application process.
Savvy is another US based online literacy company that hires current and past teachers to work with small groups of students online. The pay is up to $18 an hour and the sessions last 25 minutes each. There is no minimum requirement for teaching hours, and the times are flexible throughout the day, with afterschool being a peak booking time. All curriculum is provided to you, and sessions can be small group or 1-1. Follow this link to learn more and take a look at the application.
Private Offline Tutoring
This is always an option if you are an experienced teacher. You can advertise on your town’s local Facebook page or through word of mouth via family and friends. I have done this and have made really good money doing so because you can set your own hours and rate.
Proofreading and Editing
Cambridge was established in the United Kingdom but their headquarters is in Illinois. They hire native English speakers and prefer advanced education degrees. To work for Cambridge, you need prior editing experience, a stable internet connection, and the ability to meet deadlines. The average pay is $20-$25 an hour, your hours are flexible, and you can choose which jobs you accept or reject. Your pay is deposited twice monthly via PayPal or direct deposit (US only).
Scribbr hires native English speakers with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree to edit and proofread documents that customers submit. You can set your own schedule, accept or decline assignments, and set preferences for jobs in your field of expertise. The pay rate is based on word count, so if you are fast (but accurate), you may be able to earn more than others. You do need to be available at least 10 hours a week to work for Scribbr. Fiver is another freelance marketplace type site where you can literally buy or sell all kinds of services! Editing and proofreading services are super easy to market on Fiver. Create a profile, describe your experience and what you have to offer the client, and set a pay rate. Potential clients can search for profiles that match the service they are needing, and they can contact you if they are interested in what you have to offer. Click this link to setup an account and browse different types of services offered.
TeachersPayTeachers
If you are already creating resources for your classroom, why not list them on TeachersPayTeachers to make a little extra cash and help other teachers who need great resources!? You don’t need special programs to create great resources. PowerPoint, Word, Canva, and GoogleSuite can go a long way! You also don’t need a ton of followers to make good money on TPT. When I first started, I thought I wouldn’t do well until I had hundreds of people following my store. This was not true at all! I highly suggest listing a few free resources when you’re new so people can get an idea of what your work is like. In fact, a free resource is required to get started. After that, if teachers are loving your free resources, they will be more likely to try your paid resources, follow your store, and continue to support you.

Etsy
Do you have a crafty hobby you could turn into a side hustle? Maybe you make adorable mom or teacher shirts? Personalized tumblers? Christmas ornaments? Why not sell them and make some extra money!? Starting an Etsy shop is free and fairly simple. You can sell crafts, t-shirts, and even digital downloads on Etsy. It takes some time to learn how to create products, use the right key words and SEO, and design product listing images, but if you have something you know others would love to purchase, it’s truly worth the time and effort to start a shop and create listings. You can click here to explore getting started.
Blogging
Did you know you can make money from blogging? Truthfully, many years ago, I had no clue that this could be a solid source of income! When I heard that people were “bloggers,” my first thought was, “but how does that pay the bills?” Well let me tell you, there are TONS of ways to make money blogging. From ads to affiliate marketing, you truly can turn your blog into a solid source of income. It is not a “get rich quick” scheme, but through consistently posting valuable content for your readers, and a solid plan for increasing traffic through SEO and Pinterest, you can begin to see a steady climb in revenue from your blog.
I feel like moms and teachers always make some of the best bloggers. If you have learning resources and ideas, mom tips, beauty or style tips, fitness inspiration, recipes, or any other content that you know your audience would love, this could be a great option for you to slowly build a side income for your family.
If you are worried about not knowing how to build a website, which is exactly what stopped me from starting a blog for a LONG TIME, check out Squarespace. They have tons of beautiful website templates already created for you. Coding and website building experience are NOT needed in order to make a beautiful blog with Squarespace. Plus, you can sign up and do a 14 day trial to see if you like it before purchasing your domain and hosting plan.
Virtual Assistant
If you are super organized and great at scheduling and communication, a VA job may be the right fit for you! Several online companies and entrepreneurs are hiring VAs to take care of the tasks they don’t have time for when it comes to running their businesses. Virtual assistants may make appointments, answer emails, make phone calls, schedule trips, make reservations, and so much more. You can click here to learn more about what VAs do and browse some VA job opportunities.
YouTube
Did you know creating a YouTube channel is totally free!? If you are really good at teaching others how to do things, you can create videos to upload to a YouTube channel. This is definitely not a “get rich quick” scheme either, but once you have a certain number of subscribers and viewing hours, you can monetize your channel and begin making an income each time someone watches one of your videos! Pretty cool, right?
Amazon Reviews – My favorite side Hustle for Teachers!
This is probably my favorite side hustle I’ve tried to date! I had no idea you could join the Amazon review program and earn money when people watch your review videos and purchase a related product. No posting videos or links on social media! No asking friends or family to buy things from you!
Basically, the Amazon video review program is part of the Amazon influencer program where you can create video reviews of products (don’t worry if you are shy, I do mine faceless and have been very successful with it).
This side hustle is great for teachers who have a small teacher blog or TeacherGram and want to earn extra money without having 10k followers because NO, you don’t need a massive following for this program and you don’t need to share links everywhere to earn money.
This is where you create a video review on your Amazon storefront and Amazon does the heavy lifting. They decide which videos get placed on product pages across Amazon and if someone watches your videos and makes a related purchase, you earn commissions.
I have found this to be a lot easier way to earn money than their affiliate link program because there are already hundreds of thousands of people on Amazon every day shopping and Amazon helps me get my videos in front of those customers. I’m sharing the courses below that helped me learn how to add in this new stream of income! I made over $150 my first month with maybe 30-40 review videos posted. It has continued to grow and I’m excited to give you all an update around the 6 month mark.
The courses I took to learn to do Amazon reviews:
- 🌟Master Onsite Guide to Amazon Reviews (for beginners)
- 🌟Advanced Master Onsite Guide to Amazon Reviews (for those looking to increase their earnings)
Hopefully at least one side hustle in this post resonated with you! I truly hope it’s exactly what you need to make the extra money as a teacher without sacrificing time with your family. I will continue to update this post as I learn about more side hustles for teachers.
