Halloween is a time for tricks, treats, and spooky fun, and there’s no better way to get into the spirit of the season than by playing the delightful game of “You’ve Been Booed.” This tradition has gained popularity among teachers as a way to surprise and delight their colleagues during the Halloween season. Boosting staff morale with “staff sunshine,” is a great way to improve the culture and climate of your school building. In this post, I’m sharing how to play “You’ve Been Booed” with your teacher friends and coworkers, along with creative treat ideas to make the experience extra special.
How to Play “You’ve Been Booed”
Step 1: Gather Supplies
- In order to play, “You’ve Been BOOed, you will need to collect the following supplies:
- Halloween-themed treat bags or baskets
- Halloween or fall mugs (great for adding treats inside)
- Small gifts or treats such as candy, pens, Halloween note pads
- Printed copies of the “You’ve Been BOOed” printables
Step 2: Choose Someone to BOO
- Select a few fellow teachers or coworkers who you’d like to surprise with a “Boo.” It’s usually more fun if you keep the identity of the “Boo-er” a secret. I usually start with a teammate and someone from another grade level or department to make sure the “Boo” gets spread across the school.
Step 3: Prepare the Treats
- Next, fill your Halloween-themed treat bags baskets, or mugs with goodies like candies, chocolates, pens, notepads, or other treats. Get creative and tailor the treats to your colleague’s preferences.
Step 4: Print the Notes:
- After you’ve put together a mug with treats for 2 coworkers, print off the “You’ve Been BOOed” printables. You will need the poem, directions, and “I’ve Been BOOed” door sign so they can continue to pass it on and spread spooky cheer all throughout the school!
Step 5: Deliver the Boo
- Now it’s time to sneakily place the treat bags, the secret note, and the “I’ve Been BOOed” sign on your colleague’s desk or classroom door. Make sure to do this without revealing your identity. I think it’s more fun that way! 🙂
Step 6: Keep the Chain Going
- Finally, be sure to encourage your colleagues to continue the fun by “Booing” two more teacher friends or coworkers. The game spreads, and soon, the whole school is filled with Halloween surprises. I don’t know about you, but a cute Rae Dunn mug with chocolate treats and a few flair pens would definitely lift my spirits after a hard week!
